Joslyn Barnes is the author or co-author of numerous commissioned screenplays for feature films including the epic Toussaint, the Indian feature The Cosmic Forest, and the award-winning African film BATTU, which she associate produced with British Screen. Since co-founding Louverture Films with actor/activist Danny Glover, Barnes has executive produced award-winning features including Bamako and Salt of this Sea, the Academy Award-nominated documentary Trouble the Water, and the forthcoming The Disappearance of McKinley Nolan, plus music documentaries Africa Unite and Soundtrack of a Revolution. She recently directed the short film Prana for Cinetéve France, part of an internationally distributed series of 30 short films for environmental awareness. Prior to co-founding Louverture, Barnes served as an expert consultant and programme officer at the United Nations, has lived and traveled widely in Africa and Asia, and has written articles on trade and social development, contributing to books on electronic communications in developing countries, food security in Africa, and gender perspectives in international development. She is a graduate of Cornell University.
