“Design that needed guts from the creator and still carries the ghost of these guts in the final execution.” Featured projects included 'Trying to look good limits my life' (a five-part typographic billboard series, Art Grandeur Nature, 2004), originally displayed in a park north of Paris and rooted in the sign-painting tradition of his grandfather in Austria, and 'Things I have learned in my life so far' (Abrams, 2008; 15 covers, 256 pages), in which Sagmeister's own personal maxims — among them 'Having guts always works out for me' and 'Everything I do always comes back to me' — were published worldwide as billboards, projections, light-boxes, magazine spreads, annual report covers, fashion brochures, and giant inflatable monkeys.
